THE REVELATION OF THE CROSS |
|
|
|
“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.’ He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.” (Galatians 3:13-14, NIV)
Jesus was the only man born without the stain of sin. He wasn’t a great religious leader, He was God who became flesh with a specific mission, and He was not going to rest until it was fully completed. Death was His end, which was followed by His resurrection.
All that surrounds the Cross give us great teachings which are important to understand:
THE CROSS: THE CANCELED CURSE
If you ask a Jewish person to share their concept of the Cross, they
would tell you that it was a cursed place where the most abominable
delinquents were put to death. If the Cross symbolizes curse, why is
it now constituted as a great symbol of blessing? The Cross consists
of two pieces of wood where God removed the curse in order to grant us
His blessings. All the evil we were known for was placed on Jesus on
that tree. All the good in Jesus was transferred to us through Him.
“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for
us, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree’”
(Galatians 3:13).
THE CROWN OF THORNS: FREEDOM FROM RUIN AND OPPRESSION
When Adam and Eve sinned and were expelled from paradise, God told
them, “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you
will eat of it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and
thistles for you,” (Genesis 3:17b-18a).
THE WHIP: PHYSICAL HEALING
The Bible says that the delinquents had to be whipped forty times.
That is why the Jews decided, in an act of faith, to whip Jesus
thirty-nine times. The Romans used a whip which had many sharp metal
edges. Each whip Jesus received peeled the skin off His back until the
flesh was completely exposed (see Isaiah 53:4-5).
Scientists have confirmed that 39 types of major diseases exist. The
other diseases branch off from these major diseases. It’s not a
coincidence that Jesus received thirty-nine lashes. It was like
sending a message to the world that all the infirmity and pain, no
matter the origin, size or duration, was canceled on His back. “…And
by His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5b).
THE NAILS: OUR FREEDOM
Each one of the nails has an important significance:
Nail #1: Freedom from guilt
All the guilt that was upon your life, which would have taken you to
eternal condemnation, was erased at the Cross of Calvary. There is no
longer any need for you to feel guilty, for Jesus took the curse of
guilt with the first nail.
Nail #2: Canceled accusations and arguments
This means that every argument Satan had against your life has been
canceled. Now, what is an argument? It is a legal right that you give
to the adversary. How do arguments come about? They are the result of
curses inherited from one’s own family, and through words spoken by the
parents. These words leave a mark on their children’s lives. The good
news is that Jesus took all of the curses on the Cross. The blood of
Jesus has annulled the decrees against us. From now on, you can be
made free from guilt, because Jesus wiped out the arguments that were
held against us. He wiped them away with the blood that He shed on the
Cross (see Colossians 2:14).
Nail #3: Victory over oppression
This nail was hammered into Jesus’ heel, under His ankle. Scientists
discovered that this was the area where the executioners were able to
pound in a long nail and have it go through both feet.
In order to breathe, Jesus had to place His weight on this nail and
push Himself up so that He could inhale, because His chest was
extremely compressed. Each time He did this, the effort caused a
sharper, more intense pain to the tendons. Simply breathing was
agonizing for Him, but His suffering provided total victory for us and
we no longer need to live under oppression.
THE SPEAR: INNER HEALING
After Jesus surrendered His spirit, a soldier pierced His side with a
spear. Water and blood poured out of His body. Experts say this
happens when a person’s heart has swelled because of damage. Jesus
suffered such agony on the Cross, that His sensitive heart exploded.
You may have said at times, “My heart is broken,” or, “My soul is
shattered into pieces.” Today, Jesus tells you, “My son, my daughter,
my heart exploded so that your heart could be healed and your emotions
restored.”
APPLICATION
When you receive the revelation of the Cross, you have access to all
that has been conquered by Jesus every day of your life. And this
truth must be announced to every man and woman on this earth.
